Climate change is one of the biggest concerns for this planet – and one of the biggest responses we’ll see over the coming years is how transport will become more environmentally friendly. In the case of vehicles, the zero-emissions car could prove to be a breakthrough in reducing the driver’s carbon footprint.
But what exactly is a zero-emissions car? Will it be the pco car rental of the future, or is it a finely tuned myth? If it gets made, how will it impact the car you own now? Rest assured, Pace Hire have done their research to give you a breakdown of this potential revolution in transport!
1- Terminology
The term “zero-emissions vehicle” was invented by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and at its beginning, referred only to tailpipe emissions, or those produced during operation of the car. Electric vehicles, using battery power, won’t emit fumes for the exhaust pipe for example.
What the term doesn’t include however, is the emissions produced in creating that electricity, or the pollution created in the production of a car itself. Hence a zero-emissions car might reduce emissions heavily, but not completely.
2- Reducing the Problem
Having said that, the mission to reduce emissions during car construction is a difficult one, and a zero-emissions vehicle will still be of greater benefit to the earth than petrol and diesel vehicles. New fuel sources – hydrogen, biofuel, solar, etc. – will begin tackling the biggest challenge, which is to replace petrol and diesel for the long term, and from there other problems can be dealt with.
3- Making a Stand
It’s worth looking into a pco car rental that will contribute towards a lower carbon footprint, considering this will slowly become the future of driving. Pace Hire has a great selection of vehicles that aim to be more environmentally friendly, and as technology moves forward, we’ll aim to have the newest vehicles available.
